St. Mary Magdalen rejoices in the birth of your child. Upon receiving the Sacrament of Baptism, your son or daughter will join the family of God, the Catholic Church. Baptism for your child provides all the spiritual gifts that God gives us through the Church. It opens the door to a life of faith and grace, and is the first step in a journey toward our eternal life.
Age: Your child must be 6 years of age or younger on the day of the baptism. (Children 7 years of age and older must attend the catechism program.)
Documentation: The child’s birth certificate/hospital certificate.
Who may be godparents?
Canon Law requires that the godparents must be at least 16 years of age and have received Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation. If the godparents are married, they must be married in the Catholic Church.
Sponsors have the responsibility to help parents educate their godchild in the faith. They should be practicing Catholics and provide a good example of Christian living.
When are Baptisms celebrated?
Group baptisms are held the second Saturday of the month at 10:00 am or call the office at 310.652.2444 to schedule a private baptism.
Do we have to take a class?
Godparents must attend a pre-baptismal class to learn about the sacrament, the importance of faith in our religion, and sponsor roles and responsibilities. If you’ve taken a class at another parish, you’ll need a letter from that church.
How much is the fee?
Your $80 donation (due at the time you register your child) is non-refundable and is given to the church to pay for supplies needed for the baptism and as thanksgiving to God for His gifts to His family.
How do I register?
To register, bring your completed form, a copy of your child’s birth/hospital certificate, and your donation to the Pastoral Center during office hours, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Forms are also available on site.
